2014 Rugby League Charity Fundraiser – IHIC VS. JAFFS

Posted on Jul 31, 2014 by in Sport | 0 comments

In light of world events, the brothers in Sydney have in recent times made a stellar effort towards hosting social events to engage with the community, build stronger bonds, and help raise much needed funds for the orphans, the homeless, the war stricken and those generally less fortunate.

The unity of the brothers in Sydney is something to be admired. No matter their background, or which Islamic centre they may frequent, the brothers always support one another. I had the pleasure of attending the Charity Boxing match not long ago and the turnout was extraordinary! Brothers from all local Islamic Centres attended and supported the event, and of course, helped raise some much needed funds for the less fortunate.

“Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveller, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.” (Quran, 2:177)

The brothers from the Imam Husain Islamic Centre (IHIC) will be going up against the brothers from Al-Jaafaria Shia Islamic Centre (JAFFS) in what is expected to be a battle of rugby league which will be brutal right till the sound of the final buzzer. The brothers are putting their bodies, and reputations, on the line for this fantastic cause, and of course your entertainment.

The JAFFS have put together a team of young energetic brothers. A new generation built on fitness, speed, strength and agility. A passion to be the best!

IHIC have put together a team full of dinosaurs. A generation built on brains and brawn, heart, character, passion and a never give up attitude. A generation of survivors!

Who will come out on top? Will the speed and vitality of the JAFFS overcome the heart and passion of the IHIC boys? Or will age and determination triumph over youth and inexperience?

Whatever the result, we can expect to see a great display of skill and passion on the field.

This is a family friendly environment, and the Brothers wish to extend the invite to the whole community. Both Brothers and Sisters are welcome to attend.

There will also be BBQ’s at the venue, so bring your appetite for food, and your appetite for a fun day out with the community, helping to raise funds and awareness in support of our brothers and sisters overseas.

For all enquiries, including tickets and sponsorships, please contact Anwar on 0424 143 831 or Rabea on 0400 797 563.

I look forward to seeing you all there.
